Discover the Lava Land Off-grid Vintage Camper under the Stars
Experience a unique adventure at the Lava Land Off-grid Vintage Camper under the stars, where you can explore the fascinating Pahoehoe lava of Mauna Loa or gaze up at the mesmerizing night sky filled with shooting stars. This camping getaway promises an unforgettable experience.
Nestled at an elevation of 4500 feet, our family homestead offers breathtaking sunrises and sunsets along with a variety of wildlife. Enjoy stunning ocean views, dynamic lava formations, and flourishing young gardens throughout this extraordinary property. Whether you're practicing yoga above the clouds or grilling under the stars, this location has it all. Plus, relish fresh eggs from our coop each morning, though expect the roosters to announce the day around 6 AM!
Before your arrival, please be aware that having a vehicle is essential for access.
Your cozy stay in the “Fleetwood Shack” features a charming 1979 vintage slide-in pop-up camper, originally hailing from my hometown in Montana. Conveniently placed on a cement foundation, this campsite boasts an outhouse equipped with a compost toilet, a propane hot water shower, and solar-powered lights complete with USB outlets and power strips for charging your devices.
The kitchenette includes a mini refrigerator located outside, a two-burner propane stove, and all the essentials for preparing delicious camp meals, alongside an outdoor BBQ grill for your convenience. To ensure a comfortable night, the camper comes furnished with sleeping bags or sheets and blankets, pillowcases, as well as kitchen and bath towels. We also provide flashlights and essential camping supplies, including a 5-gallon drinking water jug.
Life on the volcano brings its own set of adventures, so it's advisable to pack some warm clothing and sturdy footwear. Please note that due to its remote location, some mobile phones may have limited service, and there is no Wi-Fi available. Traversing the lava can be challenging; therefore, this experience may not suit individuals with mobility difficulties.
As a guest, you are welcome to wander through the homestead gardens or explore the 2+ acres of lava. Take care while navigating this delicate ecosystem, as many areas are still developing with immature plants. You can even toss leftovers to the chickens (just avoid onions and garlic), and our turkeys enjoy fresh greens while rabbits adore carrots or other fruits and veggies!
Expect to be greeted by our rooster chorus each morning at around 6 AM. Our friendly pets, Monty the puppy, Sunshine the ginger kitty, and Fuzzy Mike the black and white tabby, will also be around to add charm to your stay.
Keep in mind, this escape provides an ideal opportunity to disconnect and relish in nature. There's no need for a 4x4 vehicle since the road is paved; just take it slow when navigating the driveway.
