Howzit Hostels Hawaii is proud to be the only Youth Hostel on the Hilo side of the Big Island of Hawaii. We start off every morning at the hostel with FREE chocolate chip pancakes and coffee to get the day going! We also offer several weekly paid tours and tons of free in-house and community activities to bring our guests together. Our team of Aloha Ambassadors are excited to show you the most stunning scenery Hawaii has to offer. Nestled on the East Side of Hawaii, Hilo is a hidden gem, located near stunning waterfalls, incredible jungle hikes, and beautiful beaches. For those looking to visit Hawaii’s Volcanoes National Park, we are only a short drive away from one of the most active volcanoes in the world!
Howzit Hostels Hilo is centrally located in the heart of historic Hilo - a charming, walkable town with plenty of coffee shops, restaurants, an excellent farmer’s market, local breweries, lively bars, and so much more! Only a short 10-minute ride from the Hilo International Airport (ITO), getting here is super easy.
We pride ourselves on our accommodations. Enjoy our custom made privacy bunks that feature blackout curtains, personal electric outlets, and secure lockable storage. It's like having your own private room inside a dorm! Security is paramount for us - All of our shared dorm rooms are accessible with a personalized code and reception is on-site and available 24 hours/day. So no matter what time of day or night, someone will be happy to greet you and help as needed.

Howzit Hostels Hilo Policy and Conditions:
Please note, upon booking you will see two charges on your bank statement: 1) a 15% booking fee paid directly to Hostelworld and 2) our booking deposit equivalent to the first night's stay per room/bed reserved. These charges are credited towards the total booking amount. The remaining balance (if applicable) is due in full at check-in. Please read our terms and conditions for more detailed information about our cancellation policy and booking requirements.
Activities: Van space is limited, and dates and times of activities are subject to change. Please ask reception about our activities at check-in.
Cancellation Policy:
Free Cancellation reservations may be canceled up until five (5) days before scheduled arrival without penalty, after which the deposit amount, equal to the first night's stay, will be forfeited. Non-refundable reservations are not eligible for a refund under any circumstances. Guests must notify Hostelworld themselves to cancel.
Covid-related cancellations: Given the widespread awareness of Covid-19, we believe people understand the risks of traveling during a pandemic. Anything can happen, government lockdowns, flight delays, as well as sickness. Our cancellation policy is firm. Free Cancellation reservations qualify for refunded deposits If the reservation is canceled 5 days before the scheduled arrival. Non-refundable reservations are never eligible for refunds, regardless of the circumstances. These cancellation policies apply to your reservation, even if you cancel due to COVID-related issues.
Deposits Charged: All reservations require a deposit equivalent to the first night's stay. Reception Hours: We have 24-hour reception! So no matter what time you arrive, someone will be available to assist you.
Access To Hostel: Upon your arrival please ring the doorbell and our reception staff will let you in. Once checked in you will be given a personal code for use to enter the hostel and to access your room.
Directions To Hostel: We are located in the heart of charming downtown Hilo, about a 10-15 minute Uber from the Hilo International Airport. The address is 107 Waianuenue Ave Hilo, HI 96720
Parking: Paid municipal parking located nearby is available 24/7 subject to limits. Plus, free street parking around the neighborhood is also an option. The Hostel is not responsible for damage or theft of vehicles.
Identification Required: This hostel is for travelers only. We require all guests to present a valid photo ID issued by a government authority and proof of onward travel (an itinerary that shows you have a flight departing the Island of Hawai'i). Guest's identification must match the name(s) on the reservation.
Age Restrictions: Children under the age of 18 are not permitted to stay at the hostel. You must be a minimum of 18 years old to stay in a dorm bed. Guests checking in with children under the age of 18 will unfortunately be turned away and forfeit their deposit.
Check-in/check-out: Check-in begins at 2 PM and Check-out is at 11 AM. Guests must vacate their room(s) and/ or dorm bed(s) and remove all belongings. Extensions are subject to availability and management discretion. Guest can be charged an additional night at the prevailing rate for failure to check out on time.
Guided Excursions: Available on a first come first serve basis. We do not take reservations, you must be an in-house guest to sign up. Tour destinations are subject to change. Please remember that our staff tour guides and volunteers work hard to show you a good time; a tip of $5- $20 is appreciated and appropriate. Mahalo :)
Taxes: All room rates are subject to an additional tax of 17.962%
Groups: Groups of more than 6 people require different terms and conditions, including but not limited to refund eligibility and deposit amounts. Please contact us for more information if you are interested in making a group booking.
Smoking: No smoking anything or vaping, no incendiary devices - matches or open flame. No incense, candles burning, etc. in or within 20 feet (7 meters) of the building by Hawaii Statute.
Pets: We have a strict no-pets policy. Only legally documented service animals on a leash are permitted.
Accessibility: The building is not wheelchair/handicap accessible. The hostel is located on the second floor - 25 steps. No elevator.
Additional Persons Fee: All beds are priced per person per night. Each individual in your party needs to have their bed reserved and paid for.
Visitors: Registered guests only - no visitors. It is strictly enforced.
Damage To Hostel Property: Guests are responsible for any loss or damage to the hotel property caused by themselves, their guests, or any person they are responsible for.
Guest Property: The hostel is not responsible for any loss or damage to guest belongings or any other property from the hostel room, storage, or any other part of the hostel for any cause, including theft.
Lost And Found Policy: The hostel is not responsible for lost, misplaced, or stolen items. However, if you leave something behind and we can locate it we are happy to ship it to you. Please note: a $25 handling fee + appropriate shipping charges apply.
Storage: Free storage is available to current guests. Space is limited and we cannot guarantee availability. Hostel is not responsible for loss/theft/damage to stored items.
Room Trades Or Sublet: Guests may not sell, trade, give, or barter their room/bed to anyone.
