Originally purchased in 1920 by the owner's grandfather—an Italian chemist who immigrated to Hawaii to work with the local sugar company—this residence was intended as a tranquil weekend retreat from the warmth of Hilo. He affectionately named it "La Capanna," which translates from Italian to "the cabin." The home quickly became a gathering place for those drawn to visit Madame Pele’s legendary dwelling at Halemaumau crater on Kilauea.

Today, the third generation upholds the legacy of this charming home, balancing modern comforts with a commitment to preserving its historical ambiance.
