It's about a five-minute walk down an access road to Kepuhi Beach, which is great for surfing in the winter months, ideal for swimming and snorkeling come summer, and the site of many paddle races to Oahu. You'll also be a short stroll across the old golf course from Papohaku Beach, one of the longest beaches in the state of Hawaii with waters that are rough in the winter but calmer for ocean swimming in summer. Ke Nani Kai is a half-mile stroll from Make Horse and its many tidepools, six miles northwest of the town of Maunaloa (the only town on the west end), and 19 miles west of Kaunakakai, where most grocery stores, art/gift shops, mini markets, restaurants, and equipment rentals are located.
