Captain Cook House | Makai Hideaway 600ft from Ocean Giant Deckn Gameroom/10 day special in Fall

Experience the Tranquility of Makai Hideaway: 600ft from the Ocean with a Giant Deck and Gameroom, Ask about the 10-Day Special

Welcome to Makai Hideaway, your peaceful retreat located just 600 feet from the stunning ocean. This thoughtfully designed house offers an ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, making it the perfect destination for relaxation.

Nestled one hour south of Kona and approximately ten minutes further from the Kona Airport, you can easily reach this serene location. The magnificent volcano is only an hour's drive away, and visitors should plan ahead as the nearest grocery store is 25 minutes from the house. This two-bedroom property features multiple beds and three bathrooms, providing ample space for everyone.

As you descend the paved road, take in what many consider the best views on the island. A spacious lanai runs along the length of the home, offering breathtaking opportunities for dolphin and whale watching. Enjoy delightful dinners on a grand 600-foot lanai while soaking in remarkable sunsets and refreshing coastal breezes. While the house is equipped with several fans for your comfort, please note that it does not have air conditioning.

Just a short walk—approximately one and a half blocks—will lead you to water access, where swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, scuba diving, and fishing await. You will also discover lovely trails for leisurely walks throughout the neighborhood. Accommodations include a king bed in the master bedroom, a queen bed in the second bedroom, a queen sleeper sofa, and a futon, ensuring a comfortable stay for all guests. Additionally, you'll find a fold-out mattress and an airbed mattress stored in the toy closet.

Enjoy mesmerizing ocean views right from the kitchen or while lounging on the couch. Each sunset is a unique spectacle. A barbecue grill is available on the top deck, perfect for cooking up meals while enjoying the captivating scenery. The upstairs master suite boasts a king-sized bed, and you’ll appreciate the convenience of a washer and dryer in the gameroom, as well as an extra small fridge by the tiki bar.

For your shopping needs, many travelers opt to stop at Costco near the Kona Airport. There is also a supermarket located at mile marker 77, along with a gas station for your convenience. It’s a scenic drive down to the house at mile marker 89, where spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean await you as you descend from 1200 feet to sea level.

We request that you conserve water and electricity during your stay, as Hawaii has some of the highest rates in the nation. Although the house benefits from a pleasant ocean breeze, air conditioning is not typically found in Hawaiian homes. You might even spot a turtle the size of a Volkswagen off a nearby cliff, and the snorkeling at the local swimming hole is exceptional! Access the swimming hole with a quick two-minute walk; head to Kai Street and turn right. This is also where you can launch kayaks or head into the quaint village of Milolii.

Stay connected with internet access and Netflix to keep entertained during your downtime. Picture yourself relaxing on a chaise lounge on the deck with a good book, or heading to the swimming hole for a refreshing dip and snorkeling adventure. Downstairs in the outdoor closet, you'll find everything you need for a day of fun at the beach, including coolers, mats, beach toys, snorkeling gear, life jackets, and chairs. Just remember to rinse off and return any borrowed items in their original condition. Boogie boards and additional toys are also available in the outdoor toy closet, so feel free to enjoy them.

The Milolii area is renowned for deep-sea fishing—you can either watch the boats or embark on an adventure of your own. Don't miss out on the beautiful and secluded Honomolino Beach, which is a short walk along the coast from Milolii State Park. Keep an eye out for spinner dolphins, snorkel amidst colorful fish, or perhaps catch a glimpse of a sea turtle or the elusive Hawaiian monk seal.

Getting here is easy! From the Kona Airport, head south on Highway 11 towards Kailua. Continue until you reach mile marker 89, then turn right onto Milolii Road. After about three miles, take another right onto Ewalu Avenue, followed by a left on Waenea Avenue. At the third intersection, turn right onto Elima Avenue, and the tan house on the left side (88-1555) will be your destination. If you're coming from the Hilo Airport, follow Highway 11 north for approximately two hours until you see the sign for Milolii, then follow the same directions.

Daniel will greet you upon arrival and give you a tour of the house. For administrative purposes, my tax ID numbers are TA-053-302-6816-01 and GE-053-302-6816-01.

Summary: We made a last minute decision to go to Hawaii for Christmas and got lucky to find this home. Host was super communicative and easy to work with. Lani was great with views and ocean breeze. We wanted beds and rooms for 5 adults so this worked out well. Having 3 full bathrooms was a bonus. Quiet town and lots of driving but that was perfect for our adventures going to volcano, beaches and waterfalls. Great family memories for a lifetime.
