You'll need a car if you want to explore the island, but if you just want to hang out, a car isn't necessary. The Kona Trolley makes plenty of stops along Alii Drive and in town. There are bikes for rent directly across the street if you want to go for a ride.
Unit is located on the 2nd floor for easy access with only one set of stairs to climb. There is no elevator in this building.
It is a great central location far enough from town to not feel crowded but close enough to shops and restaurants.
A great place for snorkeling is just down the road at Kahalu'u Beach Park. Also just 2 miles away you can find Keauhou Shopping Center with its grocery/drug stores and restaurants. Just beyond that you'll find Keauhou Bay, a black sand beach, and The kona Country Club golf course.
Driving is optional. Unless you are planning to explore the island during your stay, you won't necessarily need a vehicle. The Kona Trolley (Hele-On Route 201) is a convenient, open-air transit option connecting Kailua-Kona and Keauhou via Ali'i Drive. The trolley runs seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m with buses arriving approximately every 60 minutes. The general one-way fare is just $2.
