Summary: This was a great stay, however there are some quirks with the property. Nothing that wouldn’t keep us from staying again, but important to understand. Years ago, this was Marriott’s Kauai property. During or after Covid, the hotel portion of the property was transitioned from Marriott to the Royal Sonesta. The Marriott (known as Marriott’s Kauai Beach Club under the Marriott Vacation Club banner) is a timeshare based property. Other that a few limitations on what you could charge to your room account, Marriott and Sonesta guests enjoy all of the same features of the full-service resort. The Marriott is very clear that their villas are not purpose-built: they are refurbished hotel rooms. So the one-bedroom we enjoyed had a connecting door, one side the king bed, the other the ‘parlor’ with a sofa that turned into a bed. The parlor also had a mini kitchenette with full size refrigerator. It seems they also rent just the parlor and/or just the bedroom in various listings. The other quirk has to do with the timeshare aspect. If you are on a relatively long stay (we stayed nine nights) you may need to change rooms during your stay. We moved from an ocean-view room to an ocean-front room partially through our stay — both were excellent. There is complimentary self-parking for Marriott guests which worked out nicely. There is a nice (and very large) with all of the services you would expect from a full service resort. I would absolutely go back.
