Thirty-eight miles long and only 10 to 15 miles wide, Molokai is the smallest of the main Hawaiian chain. The west side is arid and dry, and during the winter, the beaches are great for surfing, while summer guests love snorkeling and swimming. The eastern side is lush and tropical with miles of barrier reef in front. Molokai's north side is famous for having the world's highest sea cliffs which rise some 3,000 feet out of the ocean. The 2774-acre Kamakou Forest Preserve on Molokai overlooks these sea cliffs and is home to endangered birds and over 200 Hawaiian plants that grow only in this preserve.
